I got the standard one, no reason to replace the Sachs forks in my opinion, as I know John @ Moto Pro can, and did, make them work just fine. The bike itself was a great deal from Frank at Frank's Motorbikes. Next stop was to Jame's shop [JD Jetting] so it could be the beta test bike, pun intended of course, for his new two stroke jet kit. He changed the needle for one of his custom made ones, leaned it out a bit, changed the spring and added a shim for the pv. With a street tire on a KTM wheel, it made 47 hp, with the Q on even! He told me his '13 300 EXC, with an SXS head, aftermarket pipe, rather free flowing silencer and jet kit made... 47hp. Great to be in the PNW!
So I love the bike, now has 530 some miles on it, and I've never used the kickstarter. Most miles are tight single track, and now that it's summer the Cascade Mountains have been seeing the Beta quite a bit... I too think it's the best I have owned. Not perfect, but where would the fun be in not personalizing it?
Oh yeah, Roscoe over on the GG forum calls me Beta Steve, I'm keeping my name from over there to reduce any confusion, which is GasGastrials.
Happy Trails!
