Hello all, Just fitted a Lectron 38HV carb onto my 18 300RR race and now with the TPS disconnected i have the check engine light illuminated on the Trip computer. Anyone else out there have a lectron on their bike and find a way to get rid of the light?

I thought there would be mention of something on Beta website for TPS removal kit, but no dice.

The ECU is detecting that the TPS has been removed along with the stock carb. To disable the warning light you just need to cut the pink wire with the purple stripe shown below. (I terminated mine with 1/4" quick-connect electrical connectors in case I want to reinstall the stock carb and OI system when I eventually sell the bike.)

I put a 36mm Lectron with 3-2M metering rod on my 2016 Xtrainer a couple of years ago and love it. Works great for the 2,500' to 10,000' elevation ranges we ride here in Idaho.

From the 2017 300RR wiring diagram in the Owner's Manual (2018 should be the same):

It's mentioned in this Oil Injection Removal Kit guide on Beta USA's support page, but that guide hasn't been updated to reflect the new speedometer manufacturer Beta switched to starting with 2017 model years. For 2017 and 2018 bikes the pink/purple wire color code is still the same on the Beta wiring harness side, but the speedometer electrical connector and pinout are different than 2015 & 2016 bikes.

Excellent post WWGUY. That's exactly what I did on mine.

Thank you! Does the TPS actually do anything other than work with the OI? just wondering why it would even be on a Race Edition bike with no OI.

The TPS is only for OI operation, which is why the OI Removal Kit mentioned above includes instructions for TPS removal. If the RE bikes now come from the factory with TPS (it hasn't always been that way) it's probably in case someone wants to add OI later. Beta makes a kit for that too.

My Xtrainer is my first 2-stroke in ten years, so pardon my ignorance. What advantage does a Lectron carb provide? My 300 runs great with the stock carb.

Here's why I run one:
- No jetting to adjust. One setting works great for the 2,500' to 10,000' elevation range I ride here in Idaho.
- Better fuel economy and range. My record so far is 81 miles of mostly single-track and all dirt without hitting reserve on my 2.2 gallon tank.
- Smooth linear electric-like performance that pairs well with Xtrainer engine characteristics.
- Less spooge from the exhaust than I was getting with the stock carb.

This guy's blog post pretty much sums up how I feel too.

Just installed a Lectron on my 18 300rr re. Love it. So smooth and runs perfect. Had to cut the pink w/purple wire to get rid of the engine light. Thanks for the tip.
