Just fitted map switch to my 15 RR

Postby IOM300RR » Thu Aug 27, 2015 11:54 am

Hi I've just fitted the twin map switch on my 15 300 RR , wired it as shown on here to the only free connector in the cable tied bunch of wires near coil , I've ground it to the top bolt on coil .
The bike used to have a very slow idle but I've just fired it up for first time with switch on and it seems to have a much quicker tick over now , is this normal ?
Ps I've not rode it yet with switch on , tick over has sped up on map 1 and 2 .

Mine was disconnected (both wires broken) when I got my 14' a few months ago. I spliced the wires back together but it did not seem to change the idle speed at all on either map once it was reconnected. I did notice the midrange was more aggressive on the hard map (map 2). I would try disconnecting it to see if the idle speed returns to normal.

Check your throttle cable routing and make sure it is seated in the top of the carb.

Agree, map has nothing to do with idle, its approx a 1K RPM difference in the strong midrange pull. Likely you disturbed the cable with the tank R&R. Safety wire the cable or get a Motion Pro with the fixed ends.

from what i've read the past few months it didn't trigger enough interest to buy the map switch. i did get to ride a few sherco models recently and the built in map switch is excellent, it's like having two separate bikes.

Thats because the PV opening curve is synced with the ignition curve. If you play around a lot with the Beta PV, you will find a spot where the curves are close, and effect is felt the most. On the Sherco, I'd be willing to bet the PV component of the map has the primary effect. Since I rejetted mine, I just leave it in "hot" and ride it.

Glenn,

For those of us not paying close attention, are the maps switched by taking the wire near the coil and either leaving it open or close it to ground?

The red/yellow wire from the CDI.

copy that part, but to switch maps you just ground it? To switch back, open the circuit to ground?

Yes. Some Kokusan CDIs of the same type fitted to GGs had a dedicated gnd brought out in the connector but the Beta version does not. CDI ground works.

Let me add I'm talking about my '13, and assuming '15 is the same, haven't looked at '15 schematic.
