I just took ownership my 390 and love it. Just a really easy bike to ride. Even when lugging, it will pull out cleanly, and if you twist more it will start to rip. Very predictable power, it doesn't start revving out unless your on the throttle - for comparison sake, my other bikes were all 2 strokes. A lot more tame at lower rpm when you give quick throttle than the few carb'd 450cc I've ridden - this could be the EFI/power delivery. All these characteristics are reasons why it's so easy to ride.
Coming from a 2010 KTM 200 xcw, I do notice the rotational mass fighting me when quickly leaning back and forth in the tight stuff. But, that's to be expected. I feel like this bike turns betters as far as holding a line and the front not wanting to wash (this could be the 4-stroke wanting to stay upright also). At first, the ergonomics felt a bit awkward, but in no time I was used to it and think i prefer it now. Picking up the bike you notice the weight, but moving it side to side off the side-stand it feels lighter than my 200. Very low center of gravity.
The stock 15/48 gearing is way too tall for single track. I geared down to 13/48 and is much better. I could probably still go to a 49 or 50 in the rear as I'm accustomed to shifting frequently, something I've noticed I don't have to do with this 390.
As far as street riding, I have heavy duty tubes and my wheels aren't balanced, so 50mph was about all I could take. If the tires were balanced I'm sure I could sit at much higher speed comfortably. I'm short and have the seat concepts low seat and the footpegs seem too close for extended street miles. Might be different with the stock seat.
If I didn't live in red/green sticker CA, I would have bought a 300cc 2 stroke. This was, in my opinion, the closest 4-stroke version of that. I don't have a single regret with my purchase.
