working on one of our favorite hill climbs...

https://youtu.be/_SsQ4LK9G1w

this climb has an interesting bit with a kicker so that we can do a basic "splat" on to a rockface as the trials riders do. in this case it isn't vertical but it's still good practice to get ready for that.

guilty as charged. a bit over a year ago two of us thought we should get into trials then put those skills to use on the dirt bikes, figuring it would slow us down and reduce the chances of injury... this was a after a year of so many guys breaking bones and pulling ligaments etc.

sadly the other guy had a serious stack and got a brain injury. he's back to riding now but just can't do this sort of thing anymore so sticks to easy adventure rides.

after bruising the thigh pretty badly on the last ride we just headed out for a smooth flowing ride yesterday so this vid has very little to do with cross training actually...

not a cross training video but a review of the 6D helmet i've been using for a while now.

i work in the brain injury area, plus a good mate got a serious brain injury on one of our rides a year ago, so i've been looking into helmet safety a lot the past year. as far as current research can indicate, i reckon the 6D would have to be the best protection for your head but you do pay for it... around US$750. my stacks are getting harder as we tackle more extreme stuff, and i've already dazed myself a bit twice lately and was very glad i had the 6D on as it's one of the few helmets that protects you well against low to medium impacts.

i also use the suomy mr jump when i know the riding will be much slower and more technical. it's a lighter helmet so can't protect the head as well as the 6D but has the dual density liner and european standard which i believe makes it a good choice in the mid-priced bracket.

if anyone is interested in learning more about helmet standards i also did this introductory vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rsaxIKfNoE

My wife a I have been using 6d helmets the last 2 seasons since her traumatic brain injury. I have no scientific evidence that its a better helmet but I did notice that when I clip low trees with the top of my head I don't get what I call the "eye jitters"
